Jeremiah Johnson
Jeremiah Johnson is a man who has been part of the US military in a war against Mexico. Jeremiah wanted to get out of the period that destroyed him completely after he left the war. Jeremiah decided to live alone in peace by living with nature in the mountains of the western border of the United States, where he built a house there after buying a piece of land. Jeremiah needs to help others in that strange nature, as he begins to gather new friends and acquaintances. Through the identification of new people, he begins to identify some of the many Indian tribes, the most important of which is Crow, whose presence may be a real cause of change and the return of new wars.

Beautifully photographed in the wilds of Utah, this film unfortunately doesn't know when to stop; it feels consumed by a self-concious desire to be arty, and offers a treatment too cool for its subject matter.August 10, 2006
Like other films of the 1970s, Pollack's saga combines nostalgia and cynicism in equal measure, thus pleasing both right-wing and left-wing viewers, not to speak the delight of seeing Robert Redford at his most handsome in a cowboy attire.May 09, 2005
There are momoments of great beauty and terror and deeply earned pathos. There are as well such not-so-incidental pleasures as John Rubinstein's lovely and serviceable musical score, and a cast of excellent supporting actors.May 24, 2003
Pollack and Redford collaborated successfully, their earnestness yielding some handsome, if over indulgent, movies such as this factually based adventure.January 06, 2010
Pollack's attempts at myth-making yield the same results as his attempts at most anything else. Jeremiah Johnson is boring, overlong, and pointless.June 24, 2006
A flawed but immensely appealing film.June 03, 2008
Beautifully photographed in the remote mountains of Utah.December 06, 2016
Shortcomings and all, a fascinating attempt to capture the soul of the Western and splash it out for all the world to see.May 26, 2008
Pollack does right to put his faith in one man and a whole lot of mountains. The result is impressive.January 01, 2000
A very entertaining film that doesn't flinch about how tough life was for the early settlers.May 26, 2008
Director Sydney Pollack has given a skilled, observant mounting as he carefully allows the man to grow in experience and knowhow.October 15, 2004
Gritty, gorgeously photographed mountain man tale.
